This is mind blowing because as of right now there are only a handful of creatures on the planet with the capacity and intellect to form a complete language with their own species, and this proves and certifies without a doubt the dolphins limitless potential, intellect and ability. There are so many different sounds that can be emitted by the dolphin at so many different frequencies that scientists are certain that there has to be quite literally, a dolphin language, common sounds and signals that are repeatedly heard to form a coherent dialect of clicks and whistles so that other dolphins can understand. The many uses of sounds by dolphins is still fascinating marine biologists to this day, but here is where it gets really interesting. The extent of which these sound waves can be utilized by the dolphins is simply mind blowing, and for so many different uses, from searching for prey underneath the sea floor, to scanning its surroundings for danger, to sensing potential predators, to even stunning and inflicting instant paralysis to smaller fish as to make their capture easier. They have been known to instruct each other as well as receive instructions and act accordingly. Dolphin Speech is so complex that the sounds even cross the species barriers and enable different kinds of dolphins to communicate. Yet the dolphin’s sonar is much more advanced than human technology and can pin point exact information about it’s surroundings ranging from size, distance and even the nature of the object. In fact, the frequency levels range 10 times beyond what humans can hear! This system is called “Echolocation”, or “Sonar”, just like what a submarine uses to navigate while underwater. Utilizing their blowholes, air sacks and valves, dolphins can emit a very wide variety of sounds. Even a new baby dolphin, (calf), can detect it’s mother’s whistle within the pod soon after birth. A sound that other dolphins recognize as a particular individual. Scientists have discovered through observation and meticulous testing that each and every dolphin has a different sound just like you and me. So the questions are pretty straight forward, what are the kinds of sounds dolphins make and what do they mean if anything at all? To answer this we must take a look at research and evidence dealing with experimentation and trials involving sound and dolphins. If you dont have an account, select 'create an. It can even be used to resurrect downed players, no matter where they are on the map. Her Adrenal Surge ability is designed to give players a small temporary overheal, or a 20 point regular heal, to all attacking players who are still alive. The attacking team’s healer, Finka was an absolute beast at one point. If Jackal somehow escapes being banned, make sure to bring a Caveira on defence, as her Silent Step ability can counter Jackal’s Eyenox. However, his strength at catching roamers off-guard and making them a target for the rest of the team means that he’s always on the chopping block when it comes to bans. Jackal’s a great operator to play, especially if you’re queuing solo, as it allows you to share intel with the rest of your team without necessarily having to communicate with them. The duration of those pings is relative to how recent the footprints were. Jackal can use his ability, the Eyenox Model III, to scan footprints of defenders, which will then cause the defender’s location to be pinged to the rest of the attacking team. Jackal is without a doubt one of the most powerful operators in Rainbow Six Siege, as his ability is designed to hard counter any roamers on the defensive team. His EMP grenades are stronger than the basic ones other operators are given, but he’s not the essential pick/ban he once was. Because of this, Thatcher’s gadget is no longer unique to him, which could see him fall down the meta somewhat until he gets reworked. In fairness, this ban rate is going to change drastically as Y7S3 progresses, as Ubisoft have made EMP grenades an equippable item for multiple operators as a means of countering the strong electronic defence meta. His EMP grenade disables all electronics in the immediate area for a limited time, which is great when trying to breach through an electrified wall or disable some Valkyrie or Maestro cameras that are covering your approach. Siege’s resident “screw your electronics” character, Thatcher is currently the most banned operator in Siege, and it’s not hard to see why. Rainbow Six Siege’s Most Banned Operators Also, these stats relate to players ranked in Platinum or higher, so we’ll also cover some recommended bans you might run into in Gold and below. While the option of no ban is valid, and is even one of the more popular options for attacking and defending, we won’t be covering it in depth here. These stats come from Ubisoft’s official data for Year 7 Season 2, so there might be some changes as Season 3 has introduced some large balancing changes. With that in mind, we’re taking a look at the stats of Rainbow Six Siege to discuss some of the most banned operators, along with some other bans that you might typically come across. Just as certain operators rise to the top of the meta, certain operators also find themselves being banned more often than not. Thankfully, Siege’s Unranked and Ranked modes come with an operator ban phase before each match, which allows each team to ban two operators each (one attacker and one defender), changing the course of the following match with each ban. Given how much Rainbow Six Siege relies on the unique nature of its operators, it’s no surprise that certain characters rise to the top of the meta quicker than others. If you plan to have a lot of tracks, you'll make your life a lot easier by getting something with motorized faders. If your keyboards don't have knobs or sliders you can get a control surface with knobs and/or sliders, and assign them to whatever you want, including volume. How would you control the volume in such a setup? Dragging sliders with the mouse before your solo seems a bit impractical. You can do this from a control surface, if your keyboard has buttons that send MIDI you can have each keyboard have its own activate/deactivate button, which will be mapped to the arm/unarm function of the MIDI track. To activate/deactivate you arm/unarm the MIDI track. Upper keyboard -> MIDI channel 1 -> organ sound, lower keyboard -> MIDI channel 2 -> piano sound. Set upper keyboard to send MIDI through channel 1, and set lower keyboard to send MIDI through channel 2. Set the organ sound to receive MIDI only from channel 1, and set the piano sound to receive MIDI only from channel 2. Make each keyboard send MIDI from a different channel, and make each virtual instrument receive MIDI only from the channel you want. Exactly how to do it will depend on your host, but it will almost always be more or less like this: This is very easy to do, and most VST hosts can handle it (I can't think of one that wouldn't). upper keyboard = organ sound A, lower keyboard = piano sound B), and activate them with as little fuss as possible. Optimally, I would like to define presets for two keyboards in advance (e.g. This can be done in most plug-in hosts (in the form of multiple tracks and MIDI mapping), but nothing comes close to how fast, easy, and live-friendly Live implements it.Ĭheck other options (BitWig and Mainstage come to my mind), but chances are that Ableton Live is exactly what you want. You can layer many instruments in one single track, and have macros control different parameters from different instruments at once. One think that I love about Live for live performances is the Instrument Rack. Even if you imagine a device that doesn't exist, you can build it with MAX for Live. "Can we do this live?" With Live the answer is almost always "yes". It is so much more than a plug-in host, so it leaves a lot of room for creativity. It was tailored for live performance, everything is agile and intuitive. There are many options, but I think the best one right now (and by far) is Ableton Live. Is there any software tailored specifically to live performances? I don't really care about recording. Consider having more than one if you can afford it. You want your setup to run absolutely flawlessly: no artifacts, ultra low latency, and no CPU usage peaking near the limit.Ĭhoosing the correct system for your needs (Mac, PC, Mobile, Laptop, OSX, Windows, Android, iOS, Linux, processor, RAM, etc) is crucial here.Īlso, if you are very serious about this, you might want to consider having a backup system in case your main one fails. This will give you a good idea of what you need and what to expect from different specs. Test your vst setup with different systems, see if the systems can handle it (check latency, CPU usage, and if any artifacts are being induced), and write down the specs of those systems. You might need a lot less than this, but that setup would leave a reasonable room for expansion if you ever feel like going more crazy. Unless you want to go nuts, something like Intel Core i5-4690K and 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM should be more than enough. The minimal specs will also depend on how many instruments and processes you want to run at the same time. You'll need to consult the minimum specs of your virtual instruments for this detail. A simple subtractive synth will run in almost anything, but a robust sampler might need more RAM and disk space. The minimal specs of the system will depend on the virtual instruments that you'll use.

We haven't used any of these tags in the example, so screen readers wouldn't be able to identify any landmarks. This relies on these landmarks being signposted through semantic tags such as, and. So, you could skip directly to the footer, or directly to the main part of the site. Screenreader software such as VoiceOver, JAWS and NVDA provides a way for users to navigate to different sections on the page based on landmarks. I'm using the screenreader software VoiceOver, which is built into MacOS, but if you're on Windows you can use NVDA which is free to download. The byline and image caption is nicely italicised, and there are some nice buttons and fancy SVG checkboxes on the cookie banner.īut let's take a look at this page from the perspective of assistive tech, which relies on the underlying HTML markup to establish the structure of the document. I can see a menu, a header, some titles and a footer. If you're a sighted user like me, it looks perfectly fine. Semantic HTML blog post example: no semantics by CodePen. My menu at the top is a series of s containing links, and the footer at the bottom is the same. I've built it using mostly elements, with a couple of s as I wanted some nice big headings. Take this mocked-up news site (as you can see, graphic design is my passion). So it matters what HTML tags we use, to make sure the screenreaders get the complete picture. They'll use the different types of HTML tags in the document to present structured information to the user, allowing them to navigate by headings, or cycle through the links in the page. But if you don't get that visual information, how can you tell what's on the page?Īssistive technology such as screenreaders will take the HTML markup of the page and present it to the user either by reading it out audibly, or sending the output to something like a braille display. Based on our prior knowledge of UI conventions, we can identify where a header is, which parts of the page are buttons or form elements, and what the title of the page is, for example. Sighted people rely on visual information to tell them about the structure of a page. They tell the browser - and assistive technology such as screenreaders - about the structure of the page, and how it should behave when you interact with those elements. Semantics is the study of meaning, and semantic HTML is exactly that - HTML tags that convey meaning. In every website, underneath the layers of CSS, the bloated frameworks, the 45945 API calls, there's good old HTML, and that's the key to accessible websites. The key is to start out with the right tools for the job - or rather, the right tags for the job. As I mentioned in my blog post 7 myths designers and developers believe about web accessibility, retrofitting accessibility is hard. If you've ever worked on a project that is riddled with accessibility issues, you'll know that fixing these problems is a mammoth task - it needs time, it needs people, it needs prioritisation. I've come across a lot of websites in my career (and in daily browsing) that are straight-up inaccessible. Players can create rockets, aircraft, spaceplanes, rovers, and other craft from a provided set of components. Despite being shown as cartoonish beings sometimes lacking common sense, Kerbals have shown themselves capable of constructing complex spacecraft parts and performing experiments to realize their scientific goals. The player administers a space program operated by Kerbals, a species of small green humanoids, who have constructed a fully furnished and functional spaceport called the Kerbal Space Center (KSC) on their home planet, Kerbin. An Enhanced Edition was released on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in January 2018 by Private Division, a publishing subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. In May 2017, Squad announced that the game was purchased by video game company Take-Two Interactive, who will help support Squad in keeping the console versions up-to-date alongside the personal computer versions. People and agencies in the space industry have taken an interest in the game, including NASA. Kerbal Space Program has support for user-created mods that add new features, and popular ones, such as those for resource mining and context-based missions, have received support and inclusion in the game by Squad. The game was released out of beta on 27 April 2015. The first public version was released digitally on Squad's Kerbal Space Program storefront on 24 June 2011, and joined Steam's early access program on 20 March 2013. The game features a realistic orbital physics engine, allowing for various real-life orbital maneuvers such as Hohmann transfer orbits and bi-elliptic transfer orbits. In the game, players direct a nascent space program, staffed and crewed by green humanoid aliens known as "Kerbals". Kerbal Space Program, commonly abbreviated as KSP, is a space flight simulation video game developed and published by Squad for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Also, having this pixel art version of Haunted House is pretty damn awesome and the sole reason as to why I have the GBC version of this game in my collection. Granted the physics, as well as the visuals, are not anywhere near as solid as what you get on the PC, but I think it is a decent enough virtual pinball game considering what the Game Boy Color was. I think that this one even though it has very basic graphics has a bit more charm to it. While I am talking about the PC version of Microsoft Pinball Arcade, I do want to also point out that there is a Game Boy Color version of this game too. The other tables are ok and it is pretty awesome from a historical point of view to have these old tables, but apart from the historical aspect of them, they do not hold up all that well in my opinion. Toy Shock actually makes a really cool virtual pinball machine based around Haunted House. It is replicated pretty well here, but I have to be honest and say that it has been released virtually many times after this, and I would say that it has been done a lot better. 3D Pinball Space Cadet works on 32 & 64-bit versions of Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. Microsoft Pinball Arcade has one star though and that is Haunted House which to this day is a firm favorite of mine. I have to say that the seven tables are all decent virtual representations of these classics. So, you get a pretty decent progression of how Gottlieb progressed over the years. What is cool about this is that starting with Baffle Ball which was released in the 40s, each of these tables are from a different decade. They managed to get a license for seven tables which are, Baffle Ball, Knock Out, Slick Chick, Spirt of 76, Haunted House, and Cue Ball Wizard. One of the coolest things about Microsoft Pinball Arcade is that it is based around real pinball tables from Gottlieb. This is pretty basic by today's standards I mean we have stuff like Arcade 1Up making virtual pinball machines these days, but I still wanted to have a bit of fun by looking back at this. Explore the galaxy in 'Space Frontier' and defend Earth from an alien invasion - Spend a day at the. This is a rather old game and features some classic real tables so I thought that it would be fun to go back and see how virtual pinball was back in the late 90s. Enjoy classic pinball with 4 unique tables. I have played a ton of virtual pinball games over the years and Microsoft Pinball Arcade is one of the more forgotten ones out there. |
